Back in Business

Hello Charleston friends!

I know it has been a while since this blog has been updating you on the goings on in the Charleston District of Bremerton, but we are working on making a stronger and more visible business association dedicated to promoting and improving the historic Charleston area.

We will be having a general meeting on Monday, August 29th at 6:15pm at Great American Furniture.  All business and property owners are welcome as well as residents and anyone interested in seeing Charleston thrive.  If there are any specific items you would like discussed, please let me know- beth@echoartworks.com or 360.405.4341.

We have seen a lot of momentum these past few weeks-folks have been painting, pressure washing, and getting ready for some late summer sprucing of their businesses.  Many of the Charleston business owners have been vocal at the City Council meetings, and we are all talking-positive things that will lead to more positive changes.  Thank you to everyone for all you have done and we would love to your help in the future!

Amy Burnett Gallery on Callow

Amy Burnett displays the oldest in-store display cabinetry in the Bremerton Kitsap area, 322 callow Avenue in front of the historic Moeller street clock. There are four antique units totaling 40 linear feet. Two of the units measure fourteen feet long each and have carved "Ms" on the legs. They are presumed to be two out of the forty original 1880 Marshall Department Store display cabinets. These antiques cabinets can be viewed by appointment during weekday hours, (360) 373-3187. Amy is also available to talk with groups about the store's history and sign her new book which includes one chapter about the building and it's history.

Welcome to Charleston!

Welcome to Bremerton, home of big ships, small homes & unbelievable views. Believe it or not, there is more to Bremerton, Washington than the new Harborside development. Just over the hill is a quaint little business district called Charleston. Charleston has been around for a long time &, like Manette, was once a separate town from Bremerton. Most of Charleston became the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard (hence, the "big ships" part of the description), but for years, Callow Ave. was the "main street" and had all the amenities a busy port could need: hardware store, bank, grocery, even an accountant & tax preparer. A few things have changed, but the character of Charleston carries on...we still have a grocery, hardware store, bank, & tax preparer as well, as a several fantastic restaurants, a couple of art galleries & arts & crafts retailers, a dry cleaner, a furniture refinisher, a bakery, a computer sales & service outlet, furniture stores, a new dance studio & much, much more! the goal of this blog is to get acquainted with the people & services located in Charleston & post information about special events going on around Bremerton. If you have some information you'd like to share, please post a comment & I will do my best to incorporate your ideas. Thanks for visiting!
